1,400 years old – Bessho Hot Springs has the longest history of any hot spring in Nagano. Just 30 minutes by train from Ueda station, this resort is full of ryokans (traditional inns), 4 public hot springs, 3 free foot baths, and a historic temple.

    The nearby Mt. Okamidake & Mt. Megamidake have since long been objects of the hot spring people’s faith and are climbable in 1 - 2 hours. The summits overlook great views of Bessho Onsen and the Shioda plains.
